Hello Meg: I agree with you that there is much confusion in the Christian community about what is legalism and what is not. Those who speak that way tell us that we are to live only in relationship with Jesus Christ because He saved us, but on the o…

Hello Total Praise: The devil is all about lies, deception and ignorance. He wants to keep us divided and uses all his tricks. Remember the old adage: "United we stand, divided we fall?" He thinks if he manages to keep us divided, nothing good can…

How Excellent Is the Name of Jesus!

Yesterday, I filled an application form for a position as a counsellor at a Christian organization. And the form asked for the names of three references, which I gave. One of them was the name of a very prominent person in the community who happens to be a long-time school chum of mine. Previously, I had asked her permission to use her name for that purpose and she had gladly given it

As I wrote this person’s name, thinking about the impact it would most likely bring to the readers of the form,… Continue

No Turning Back...

Last Sunday, at church, we sang the chorus “I have decided to follow Jesus, no turning back, no turning back...” and it was a rousing start for the service. And though that was not the only chorus we sang, that one about “no turning back” stayed with me for a long time.

Did you ever notice that some of these choruses have a way of touching our emotions differently to the way the older hymns do? I love the old hymns like “What a Friend We Have in Jesus” and “Blessed Assurance” and others like th… Continue

A Life Worth Living

Today we mourn the loss of two icons in the entertainment industry: Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson, who was preparing for a comeback on stage after a long sabbatical.

And I received an email from a dear friend who wanted me to shed some light on the realities of life and death. He wrote: “...we are told to plan for our future. Michael Jackson was working hard at producing a series of new concerts in England; but here is something difficult for me to understand: why should we suddenly pass a… Continue

You Can Make A change

Percy Ainsworth, born in 1873 in Manchester, England gave a powerful sermon titled “The Principle of Displacement” in which he emphasized “making a change” as the theme of Isaiah 55:13. The text says: “Instead of the thorn shall come up the fir tree, and instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle tree: and it shall be to the Lord for a name, for an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.”

Ainsworth’s sermon was based on cultivating a displacement attitude. And this principle can be utili… Continue

Even This Shall Pass Away...

"And the Lord turned the captivity of Job...also the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before...” (Job 42:10).

When the time was right, God did a new thing for Job, favouring him abundantly. Once again, Job became a healthy and prosperous man, blessed with gifts of jewelry, new offspring and twice as much wealth as he had before. Job’s captivity had passed away.

Many of us know Job’s story—a story of disappointment and grief, however, throughout his ordeal, Job was fully aware of God’s uni… Continue
